Why we benefit from Social Connections

We are fresh off KitsapFest which happened last Saturday July 11 in Silverdale.

The Live Well Kitsap team and I are still basking in the joy of seeing it all come together.

Sunshine, sponsors, vendors, music, flowers, children, and people connecting, discovering, exploring and engaging. People were present. And it was a beautiful thing to witness.

In the midst of the duties, responsibilities and tasks that have to be tended to at KitsapFest, I paused several times to just look around and notice people- to take it all in.

I loved seeing people listening and dancing to the live music. I enjoyed watching children run around -playing, doing art, and seeing their delight in having new sparkly art adorning their precious faces.

People were Smiling. Relaxed. Happy. Joyful.

This is why we do it.

Because in a world filled with way too much hatred and hostility, in a world that wants to reduce us if we’re not fitting the mold of the affluent and the powerful, in a country that wants to squash voices, rights, and label others as less than… we can still  choose to come together, to live,  love, connect, to support one another, see one another, be kind to one another and celebrate life, love, health and wellbeing while we forget for a little while the ills of the world.

KitsapFest is one day.  Our desire at Live Well Kitsap is all the good vibes experienced there will continue on.

We all need one another. We need community.  We need safe people around us to thrive.

We know our bodies and brains benefit in the company of people we like, love and experience as psychologically safe.

We know that loneliness robs us of life, health and joy.

We need to connect as often as possible with others who fill us, rather than rob us of energy and joy.

Consider today how you can increase your life, health span and joy.  Who are the people you know that you will pour your time, energy and love into and who are those who are able to do the same for you? ( We need both to give and receive to thrive!)

Do you know who those people are?  Are you making time for them?  Are you intentionally nurturing those relationships?   If not, be curious about why not?

Perhaps you have yet to meet those people… perhaps you’ve let the stresses of life and work and responsibilities rob you of connecting with others in meaningful ways.

We need work and rest. Fulfilling responsibilities and rejuvenation and recreation.  Time alone, and time together.

Today we hope you will pause to consider how much family, friends and community really matter to your ( and others) health and wellbeing.

At Live Well Kitsap, we’re here for it!  We strive to create opportunities to support wellbeing businesses as well as the community to Live Well.

Share your thoughts, ideas and suggestions with us!

Together we can, Live Well Kitsap!
