TIPS AND TOOLS FOR SUCCESS FOR THE LIVE WELL KITSAP TRANSFORMATION EVENT

WEEK 3. SPIRITUAL WELLBEING

PRO TIPS FROM THE LWK TEAM

RE: READING THIS WEEK

You may be someone who regularly reads your bible or devotional, or some other kind of spiritual book, or regularly listens to a spiritual podcast, but if you are not, plan ahead for this week and consider what habit  you might want to form to enhance your spiritual wellbeing.

RE: MEDITATION OR PRAYER

Since spiritual wellbeing can mean so many different things to different people, consider this week what it means for you. Is it simply being curious and wanting to know more about the possibility of God, or a higher power?  Is it you once had a faith or religion but through time it has faded away or even seemed elusive. Use this week to devote thought, prayer and meditation of how investing in your spiritual life can make a huge difference in your life.

At LWK we want to honor your spiritual journey. This may be a great time to slow down, consider your relationship with God or a higher power – consider your life and Who you belong to, or where you might be going when you leave this life that we are all just passing through.

Additionally, to experience greater peace and calm engaging in prayer or meditation can be life giving.  Consider there are many different ways to meditate but in general they all have in common slowing down and becoming mindful and present. Prayer and meditation can be great ways to quell anxiety.

RE: GRATITUDE/ GRATITUDE JOURNALING

Research is telling us that people who actually write down what they are grateful for seem to have a more positive and balanced outlook and a more appreciative mindset.  No matter what our external circumstances we can choose gratitude at any time.

We hope this one might really become a habit that sticks for you!

RE: FORGIVENESS/ FORGIVING

We know at LWK that some people really struggle with the idea of forgiveness. We want to help you dispel the myth that offering forgiveness to someone means you are saying that what they did was ok.  In fact, it is quite the opposite. Forgiving someone for a wrongdoing is actually beneficial to you- you are simply saying, “I release this person from their debt of owing me due to the harm or difficulty they caused”. In no way do we say that the person’s actions were ok, just that we are ready to perhaps let go of all the anger and resentment.  Consider also, any wrongdoing you may have done to another human either recently or long ago. You may choose this week to simply ask for forgiveness- without explanation or justification- just simply ask, “Will you forgive me for…?” This one act alone can be beautifully freeing.

RE: YOUR ONGOING SPIRITUAL JOURNEY

We all need a purpose for our lives. If you have discovered yours, then continue to pursue it. If you are not sure where God (or a higher power) fits in, then reach out to those you know whose faith you can lean into. Ask for a meet up to connect just to be curious and ask questions.

RE: WHY WE NEED OTHERS SPIRITUALLY

Being on a spiritual journey is something we benefit from doing alone, as well as with others.

Consider when you will spend spiritual time alone and what you will do during that time, and also consider how and when you will spend time spiritually with others. Some people accomplish this through joining a church, care group or attending a bible study. Practicing our faith with others is opportunity for connection as well as learning and growing in our faith.

OTHER TIPS-

Reading or watching videos with your kids, partner or spouse on spiritual matters is a great way to connect with them and have the whole family share in a spiritual journey.

It is never too late to revisit issues of faith, or re -engage with your faith. If you feel spiritually strong, then consider how else you can keep growing in your faith.

HOW TO USE THE TRANSFORMATION THIS WEEK- OPTIONS AND POSSIBILITIES:

Do the Transformation just how it is laid out- one challenge activity per day.

If that feels overwhelming, pick just one or two of the daily challenges and focus on doing them each day.

MAKE THE TRANSFORMATION WORK FOR YOU!  EACH DAY IS AN IDEA AND A SUGGESTION OF WHAT YOU MIGHT DO. MODIFY TO FIT YOUR NEEDS AND GOALS.

By the end of the week, consider how one of the daily challenge activities if repeated and became habit might help you accomplish a spiritual goal. Decide which activity and then put it in your calendar as a regular appointment.

Be sure to touch base with your A/E buddy regularly or as often as the two of you have agreed upon.
